Online Texas Holdem Tournament Tips
Take Intelligent Risks
If you plan to take risks, do it at the game's early stages. The lower blinds mean you can afford to see more flops and make looser calls than normal.
Steal the Blinds
If you are in a late position, do not be afraid to make a play for the blinds. For every blind you steal, it is like not having to post one the next time around. You can buy time while you wait for a big hand.
Get a Feel for the Table
Spend some time learning the opponent's game and sense the atmosphere of the table. During the tournament, a player will change its positions at least several times, thus observe at least one round before engaging into real action.
Outlast Other Players
The primary objective in a tournament play is to outlast other players, for that reason let them disqualify themselves. If you are in good shape, do not be afraid to sit out or play tight.
Watch for Traps
Often players will pay exaggerated price for making small mistakes in the tournament. Players should make smaller bets in order to reveal more information regarding the hand of the opponent.
Go All In
When you play in any no limit tournament, chances are you will have to go all in at least once. The key is to act confidently, recognizing when you have the best hand and forcing someone else to catch you.
Play Tight in the Later Rounds
If you have a decent amount of chips, you should play extremely tight in the later rounds. This is when low stacked players will move all in and chip leaders will only 'play the nuts'. Adjust your game accordingly and wait for a very strong hand.
Know the Discipline
Chaos is not only the opposite of discipline, but also a serious obstacle to improvement, especially during Texas Holdem game. In order to be successful in tournament play you must have the discipline to wait for a solid hand or strategically good move.
